2003 Chevrolet S10 - 7.39 @ 185
From The Owner
I’d been looking for a car for a little bit but ended up between a Toyota Celica and the Chevrolet s10, the Chevy seemed like a better option. I spoke with a mate of mine Justin at horsepower solutions and Dan from Promods Racecar Fabrication then we all decided it was going to be something different and run a 2JZ and TH400 combo. These 2J motors just seem to make the power too easily.
When it was first shipped to Australia I believe it had a nitrous BBC and powerglide set up. The motor and box was taken out then sold off as a roller to a guy who had it for a few years and needed to sell some stuff. So I picked it up about 4 years ago in 2011. The truck was in good condition and just needed to modify a few things to suit myself being 6 foot 3" its a little snug for room in the cab.
FKN2J has had a few changes over the years. The first set up had Carrillo rods and custom JE pistons, and a ported cylinder head by Jack Bros, along with 1mm oversize Ferrea valves, Crower 280 camshafts. The turbo setup was a Proboost gt42 turbo with air to air cooler. After some oiling issues we ended up changing over to a barnes dry sump set up. I ran 8.1’s with this set up. Next we went to a garrett gtx42 and went a best of 7.70 @ 161. In current trim we have a precision 94mm with a PWR slurry box intercooler and have gone a best of 7.39 @ 185. We ran that 7.39 with a leak in the intercooler, which was pumping cold water into the engine!
We are currently working on a new combo and just going to go racing again for a while and have some fun before we step it up. The ultimate goal is for 6 seconds @ 200 MPH. We first built the car to run mid 8’s so the need for speed has taken over! We will see how far it takes me!
Need to make a special thanks to all the people who have helped with the build along the way! Justin Simpson @ Horsepower Solutions most of all for the build and tune. Dan Swanney @ Promodz racecar fabrication for the fab work and set up. Mark Stevens for building and servicing gearbox. Marty Worling @ Performance Wholesale for parts and advice. George @ Rocket Industries for parts. Graig Thompson @ Craig Thompson engineering for machine work. James Horan @ Full Race Fabrication for car setup and convertor. Justin @ Eagle Plastering for being a top bloke and a bunch of good mates for helping along the way. Timmy, Dale, Russel, Shaun, Graeme and my beautiful partner Sarah and kids for being so supportive.
